I'm part of the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit (IEU) at the University of Bristol. The Unit develops innovative causal analysis methods for population-based and clinical health sciences. I co-lead a team within the Unit developing novel approaches to capturing the wide range of data of interest to the Unit.
Before joining the IEU, much of my research explored how we represent and process information about facial expressions. After an apprenticeship with BT’s Research and Development department I went to study Electronic Systems Engineering at the University of Essex. I returned to BT to work as a designer, project manager then group leader on projects that ranged from developing the world's first video on demand service to collaborations with Microsoft building corporate groupworking products. I joined the School of Experimental Psychology at Bristol to pursue an interest in visual perception and social cognition, and completed a PhD in face perception with Dr Chris Benton.
