External Estates are responsible for the External Realm Handbook and its implementation.
The Handbook is one in a series of documents within the University of Bristol that influence the development and design of the fabric of the University.
The University of Bristol Strategic Masterplan – adopted by Bristol City Council in 2006 as Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) 11. The Strategic Masterplan sets out the future direction for developing the fabric of the University Precinct within the context of the City of Bristol. The masterplan is available to download from the Estates Office website.
The University of Bristol External Realm Framework and Public Art Statement – an accompanying document to the Strategic Master Plan, developed as a result of and to compliment SPD 11. It aims to build on the 10 step vision for the University Precinct set out in the Strategic Master Plan and further develop the Artistic and External Realm Design Code ideas stated in SPD 11 and Appendix 13; Urban Landscape and External Realm.
The University of Bristol External Realm Handbook – guides the choices and specifications for material palettes and design in the external realm, and is written to complement the External Realm Framework and Public Art Statement. As the planning and development of the Precinct moves forward they will help to guide the design process providing practical advice and quality benchmarks for designers, and artists and also for Bristol City Council as the Local Planning Authority. The Handbook is available online from the Estates Office website, but please note that it is currently being revised and a new version will be available online during 2013.
