Application procedure
In order to apply for a Direct Loan, you must access the US government website www.studentloans.gov and complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), carry out Entrance Counselling and submit a Master Promissory Note. Once completed, the University can access these records online and we can begin the loan process.
Student Aid Report
New students
Students are required to complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This can be completed online at www.studentloans.gov.
On the website you will find out information on how to obtain a PIN number which will allow you to complete this procedure online. Once your FAFSA is completed and processed it will generate a Student Aid Report. This is used by the University to determine your eligibility for a loan as stipulated by the US Department of Education.
Entrance Counselling
You are required to complete Entrance Counselling before a loan can be processed. If you have applied for a PLUS loan as well as the Stafford loan, and you complete the Entrance Counselling for the PLUS loan, it is deemed to cover the Stafford element of the loan as well. This can be completed online at www.studentloans.gov.
Master Promissory Note
You are required to submit a Master Promissory Note (MPN) for the Stafford element of the loan, and, if applying for the PLUS loan as well, you will need to enter a separate one to cover this. This can be completed online at www.studentloans.gov.
You can find information on how to estimate your living costs on the cost of attendance pages.
