Research Grant Application Workshops:

These workshops are aimed at those new to or requiring refresher training on the application process. These workshosp are suitable for colleagues based in the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences & Law only. We suggest that those attending Workshop 2 should have attended Workshop 1.

Workshop 2: Writing a grant application This is an in-depth, interactive workshop. We will tackle how to write a strong application, considering: how to write a good lay summary and drafting the case for support. Prior to the workshop attendees will be asked to write a lay summary for which they seek funding. Workshop leaders and fellow academics attending the course will provide feedback on these summaries. We will also explore the peer review process in some depth, looking at funder assessment criteria, as well as analysing examples of successful and unsuccessful applications

Workshop 3: Optimising your approach to grant writing:

This half-day workshop details additional approach requirements with respect to the "in depth" structure of a successful bid, the need to present and optimise the supporting arguments and justifications required and how to achieve this. Using both examples and worked illustrations this workshop puts theory into practice covering most of the common pitfalls and, through group workshop discussions, presents the tips, tricks and techniques for optimising a proposal with minimum space.

Target audience: Research staff with some experience of writing grant applications and who want to improve their skills in this area.
