Postgraduate profile: Stacey

What do you particularly enjoy about postgraduate study in your department?

You have the freedom to pursue your own interests. I never thought I’d be doing a PhD that focuses on neuroscience in a geography department!

What are the facilities like in your department?

Excellent. Postgraduates are given their own office and we have large desks and our own computers. If there is ever a problem, it is sorted out quickly. We also have access to the main staff room and all the undergrad facilities, including the library and the cartography lab.

How much support do you get from staff?

Like I said, my PhD isn’t a traditional geographical subject but my supervisors have fully supported my choices and are enthusiastic about my research.

Why did you decide to apply for your programme?

Because I enjoyed my undergraduate degree, especially the dissertation and doing my own research.
