Geographical Sciences celebrates the launch of the Bristol Pound
20 September 2012
The School of Geographical Sciences was delighted to help celebrate the launch of the Bristol Pound yesterday. Human Geography PhD student Mark Burton is a core member of the Bristol Pound team. He works on the nature of the financial system and possible alternatives, and is using his research to instigate practical change towards a sustainable and just financial system. Mark is supervised by Wendy Larner and Mark Jackson.
The
Bristol Pound is a complementary local currency designed to support Bristol's independent businesses, strengthen the local economy, keep our high streets diverse and distinct, and help build stronger communities. It is the UK's first city wide local currency, the first to have electronic accounts managed by a regulated financial institution, and the first that can be used to pay some local taxes.
