PhD student nominates Students' Health Service GP for Bristol Post Health & Care Award
26 September 2017
While an undergraduate at Bristol, current PhD student Gareth Griffith sought help for depression from the Students' Health Service. He has nominated its Director, Dr Dominique Thompson for a Bristol Post Health & Care Award.
Gareth initially struggled at University, became depressed during his second year of study and contemplated suicide. Following a breakdown in the summer before he was due to return for his final year, he was encouraged by his family to first see a local GP and then on his return to Bristol, he sought advice from the Students' Health Service. He began talking to its Director, Dr Dominique Thompson, who, with over 17 years of experience as a GP dealing with student mental health issues, was able to give Gareth the advice and care he needed to carry on.
In recognition of this help, Gareth has nominated Dr Thompson for a Bristol Post Health & Care Award.
