My research uses satellite data to observe water levels in the River Amazon, both in the main channel and across the floodplain. One satellite of particular interest is ICESat (Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite), the first space-borne laser altimeter. The aim is to provide us with a more comprehensive understanding of floodplain fluxes and connectivity. The satellite data will also be used with the aim of improving large scale hydrodynamic model simulations. The model (LISFLOOD-FP) will be assessed to find whether enhanced flow simulation and improved representations of water level dynamics can advance hydrologic understanding.

I carried out my undergraduate degree in Environmental Science at Dundee University. I then went on to do a Masters in Environmental Remote Sensing at the same institution, before coming to Bristol University in 2009 to begin my PhD.
