Ms Andrea Finney

Andrea has more than ten years' experience undertaking and managing social research studies in a policy environment and often in sensitive topic areas. She applies both quantitative and qualitative methods and has particular expertise in the design and multivariate analysis of complex surveys.

Andrea joined PFRC in January 2007 having previously worked on the new longitudinal survey of household assets and debts at the Office for National Statistics. Prior to that, she was a researcher at the Home Office for more than five years where her responsibilities included question design, analysis and reporting for the British Crime Survey.

She is co-author of a report to the European Commission on the nature and causes of over-indebtedness, led a review of saving in lower-income households and an analysis of the drivers of banking exclusion for HM Treasury and, in partnership with the Centre for Sustainable Energy, has undertaken a mixed-methods study of the experience of fuel poverty among the income-poor.

Andrea has extensive experience of analysing the Wealth and Assets Survey (for which she also contributes to the Technical Group). Andrea has also designed a financial capability assessment tool for Bristol Debt Advice Centre and is leading a project to measure the financial impact of a cancer diagnosis for Macmillan Cancer Support.
