Dr Ian Fitzpatrick

My current research is on a project titled: Glacial Flour Power – a transdisciplinary investigation of the potential of glacial flour in supporting crop yields and promoting soil care in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH). I will be responsible for the social science component of the project, working with partner organisations and farmers in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, India.

My background is as an ethnobotanist and social anthropologist. I previously carried out research in east Nepal on cardamom production, inequality and migration. I have also worked as a research methods consultant in the Andes region for the Collaborative Crop Research Program and Statistics for Sustainable Development, and written policy reports on a range of food and farming related issues. In a previous life (2012), I set up a co-operative bakery in Leeds (Leeds Bread Co-op).
