The aim of the research project is to evaluate the potential impact of different climate change scenarios on the hydrological regimes of catchments in the Himalayas which have a significant meltwater input from their glaciated headwaters. An estimated 1.4billion people rely on rivers fed by snow and glacier runoff from the Himalayas and at present there is a lack of detailed understanding of past and potential future changes to the glaciers and resultant meltwater production in the region.

Louise completed her undergraduate degree in physical geography at the University of Leeds in 2006. The following year she completed her MSc in Catchment Dynamics and Management at the same university whilst being sponsored by Yorkshire Water Plc. She graduated with Distinction.
Upon finishing her Masters she embarked on a career as a hydrologist employed by Halcrow, and worked on a number of high profile projects related to the flood events in Cumbria in 2005 and 2009 and the summer floods of 2007 across the country.
