Research summary

My research focusses on the large-scale dynamics of the atmosphere and oceans. I am particularly motivated by understanding the human impact on the climate system, such as that caused by the Antarctic ozone hole and rising greenhouse gas concentrations. I also maintain an interest in understanding the atmospheric dynamics of other planets. I use a combination of idealised numerical models, comprehensive general circulation models, and observational data. Current specific areas of interest include:

  • Impacts of the Antarctic ozone hole on Southern Ocean circulation, temperature, and sea-ice.
