1. Programme content

Determine whether the School of Geographical Sciences and the University of Bristol is the best place for you to pursue postgraduate study.

2. Funding

An integral part of the success of your application is an ability to guarantee that you can meet the costs of study for your postgraduate degree. Domestic and EU students who wish to pursue PhD research at Bristol after successful completion of the MSc are eligible to apply for financial support from the ESRC 1+3 scheme.

Funding for Domestic and EU Students: Domestic and EU students are eligible to apply for financial support from one of the UK's academic funding bodies, including the:

Prospective UK and EU students who fulfil the ESRC’s eligibility criteria and would like to apply for an ESRC quota award, or to be considered for ESRC and AHRC open competition awards, should simply apply to the School following the normal application procedures. Offers of studentships are competitive. Decisions will be based on candidate excellence and School priorities.

4. References

You will need at least two academic references to support your application.  Your application will NOT be considered without references.

5. Research proposal

Applicants who wish to be considered for ESRC 1+3 funding should provide us with a research proposal of up to 1000 words, detailing your intended PhD research project. The report should lay out the general aims and objectives of your intended research, its academic and substantive contexts, the intended methods you propose to use, a broad timetable, and any other information you think would be useful to us when considering your application.
