Britons pessimistic about financial future

The economic climate has made Britons more pessimistic about their future financial situation than they were a year ago, reflecting a general international trend towards increased financial anxiety, according to the latest research from the University’s Personal Finance Research Centre (PFRC).

Poor get left out in the cold

Households on low incomes will feel the cold pinch of winter more than most as rising energy bills and promised cuts to welfare benefits threaten to push them beyond the brink of their financial limits. So suggests a report from the Centre for Sustainable Energy and the University of Bristol, proving that poverty, fuel hardship and financial difficulty are inextricably linked.

Half of British households have 91 per cent of wealth [UoB press release]

The wealthiest half of British households have 91 per cent of total wealth, with the least wealthy half accounting for only 9 per cent of wealth, according to the latest Wealth in Great Britain report. The report, which contains chapters by PFRC researchers, presents results from the new Wealth and Assets Survey and is published by the Office for National Statistics.
