Research activities

The Geographies of Political Economy research group’s activities include full participation in the Human Geography Seminar Series, the WUN Horizons in Human Geography seminar series, and the running of an ESRC seminar series, entitled ‘Feminism and Futurity,’ on gender, space, bodies, political economy, welfare, citizenship, materiality, and political ecology. Supported by the university’s Institute of Advanced Studies, we have recently hosted visits by scholars such as Paul Robbins (University of Arizona) and Norma Rantisi (Concordia University). Nick Blomley (Simon Fraser University), Neil Brenner (New York University), Glen Norcliffe (York University, Canada) and Pauline McGuirk (University of Newcastle, Australia) have also visited us. We also welcome visiting PhD students and have recently hosted Rebecca Lawrence (University of Stockholm) and Yosuke Maeda (Nagoya University).

Members of the group are involved in a number of research projects within the university and more broadly—often supported by funding from institutions such as the ESRC, British Academy and Nuffield Foundation.
