Reading Room Library Common Room Laundrette

Reading Room

Residents have 24 hour access to the Reading Room which is situated on the first floor of the Administration Building between K and L blocks. This quiet room contains tables, chairs, a small kitchenette and can be used by the residents for personal study. This room is most popular during periods of exam preparation and outside of that time it is sometimes put to use as a gallery for JCR art exhibitions or as a meeting room for various groups in hall.

Library

The Library is in Goldney House and contains a range of academic texts, novels and works of general interest. Residents are encouraged to make use of the books. In this room there is a grand piano which may be used by the residents for piano practice. This room can also be used for playing other acoustic string and wind instruments. Since a large number of people are likely to wish to use the piano, no individual session should normally last longer than 30 minutes. During the summer term this room will often be used for quiet study. For those who wish to play the piano in this room during the summer term we only ask that they please be considerate of other residents who may be revising. The Library is available every day between 8am and 11pm, except for those times when it is being used for meetings.

Common Room

The Common Room is in Goldney House. This gorgeous, sunny room has beautiful views of the garden and can be used for study, small group gatherings or for watching TV. The Common Room is available every day between 8am and 11pm, except for those times when it is being used for meetings.

Goldney Bar

Located in Goldney House, Goldney Bar is an important part of hall life. The events staged by the JCR such as band performances,  themed parties, pool tournaments and quizzes are regularly held in here during the year. Major sporting events are often shown on the Bar's television or projector. Goldney Bar is a private club for the use of Goldney residents, though a maximum of two guests may accompany a resident. As with all licensed premises, Goldney Bar is non-smoking, although there is a courtyard area available for smokers.

Tennis / Squash Courts

Within Goldney grounds there are two sports hard courts for residents of Goldney Hall and Hillside/Woodside to use; they are also shared with Manor Hall. These are mainly intended for tennis but can be used for basketball and netball too. So in using these courts, for which there is no booking system as such, it is very important that the needs of others are respected. This means that no game of any sport should normally last more than one hour.

Goldney residents also have access to a squash court in Clifton Hill House, which is the Hall of Residence next door to Goldney Hall.

Launderette

The Launderette is situated to the side of K block. There are three washing machines and three tumble dryers. The cost of a wash is £1.80 and the cost of a tumble dry is £0.50

Bike Storage

Goldney has a number of bike hoops located under E-block, but there is also a bike shed available for residents to use in exchange for a £15.00 key deposit. It is important that bicycles are not kept anywhere other than these two areas so that they do not cause an obstruction and contravene fire regulations.

Car Park

Please do not bring your car with you to Bristol. We do have a small car park at Goldney but we are only able to provide car parking permits to those residents that have a medical requirement for obtaining one. If you would like to discuss the possibility of obtaining a car parking permit please contact the Student Support Administrators Diane Benoit or Karen Ireland. Please note that there is no student parking in the University precinct apart from disabled parking.
