Information for Incoming Erasmus
Welcome to the Department of Hispanic, Portuguese and Latin American Studies!
You will see that we offer a wide range of courses on the language, literature, culture and history of countries throughout the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking worlds.
You will find that you study in small classes of about 18 students, so you will get a good chance to meet other students and talk to your lecturers and language tutors. We will encourage you to participate actively and hope you will find the experience intellectually exciting, as well as giving you opportunities to improve your English.
Academic Year
Our academic year is in three terms and details can be found here
Teaching
Our teaching is divided into two 12-week teaching blocks (semesters), followed by 6 weeks of exams. Most courses are for one teaching block.
Please note that it is essential that you are present in Bristol for the duration of the whole teaching block. You will be allowed to return home only in approved circumstances so you should not arrange to take exams at your home university during Bristol terms. You may return home after your last examination in the summer term.
Students wanting to arrive in January/February should ensure that they arrive in time for the beginning of teaching block two.
