Prospective Undergraduate Students

Two students take notes at a lectureThe Department of History is not just an internationally important centre for the study of history, it is also the UK's most popular history department for undergraduate teaching in terms of the ratio between the number of applicants and the numbers of places.

The Department offers a stimulating and challenging range of undergraduate units that draws directly on the research interests of its members of staff. Areas of specialist teaching include contemporary history, colonial history, early modern history, and medieval history. A new syllabus embodies a clear development from your first year of studies to your third year, with students encouraged to engage with primary sources and, by their final year, to undertake a piece of genuinely original historical research.
