R&D/ILRT undertakes externally-funded Research and Development projects explicitly aligned to University priorities for the student experience, research excellence and effective business processes. This involves bidding to research councils and other funding bodies, tendering for development work in the public, private and third sectors.
Nature Locator: Leaf WatchA mobile 'app' to support the Conker Tree Science project with researchers at the Universities of Bristol and Hull. The app offers a new and improved mechanism for deriving automatically geo-tagged photographic evidence of the spread of the horse chestnut leaf diseases; integration of crowd-sourced data with analysis tools used by scientists; easy-to-use, web-based data visualisation software. Further applications of this technology are now being investigated. |
Visualising ChinaBuilding on previous work with the University of Bristol's Drama department, this application allows Historians to explore more than 6000 digitised images of historical photographs of China. The site offers cross-searching with related online collections and intuitive ways to filter image, video and textual resources according to time and geography. Researchers can access a private research space as well as a shared workspace, for example, to create Learning Pathways for students. |
Office for Fair Access (OFFA)R&D/ILRT was commissioned to design and develop a new website for the Office for Fair Access (OFFA). The site is managed by a non-technical user using a customised blog tool (Wordpress). As with many of our projects we employed a 'user-centred design' process - interviewing users, task analysis and user testing with prototypes to ensure that the site meets the needs of the target audience. |
These are a just a few examples of the project work we do. You can find details of all of our current projects in our projects listing. For general enquiries about R&D/ILRT projects contact Simon Price.
