Each mammalian cell produces about 50,000 different proteins. For each cell (and therefore the whole organism) to function properly, it is vital that each of those proteins is delivered to the correct destination within (or outside) the cell. I am interested in how this process works, i.e. how is it that each of these 50,000 or so different proteins is delivered to the right place in each cell. This involves the use of techniques from the fields of molecular and cell biology as well as from biochemistry.
