Email threats and issues

It is a reality that criminals are attempting to access both personal and business information and, whilst the tools we use offer some protection, all members of the University need to be aware of the dangers.

A common tool used are email messages. Such emails encourage you to visit links to web sites requesting personal information or which contain malware (computer viruses).

Whilst your email is protected by sophisticated filters, criminals react to such blocks, meaning there is always a possibility that a message may enter your Inbox. Where specific threats are identified we work with other organisations to take down fake websites. Where a University email account has been compromised we look to minimise the impact that can be done by criminals.
