Student travel

University bus service - U6

The University of Bristol, in partnership with the University of West of England (UWE), runs a number of bus services for students and staff at both universities and the general public.

Bus

First Bus is the city’s local bus company and has a comprehensive network of bus lines serving the city centre and the suburbs. A First Bus student photocard entitles you to some reduced ticket options. Photocard forms are available at the University of Bristol Welcome Lounge.

Coach

National Express Coaches is the UK-wide coach network with connections to most destinations throughout the country. A National Express Young Person's coachcard costs £10 for one year and entitles you to up to 30% reduction on your fare.

Train

All full-time students (of whatever age) are eligible to apply for a Young Person's Railcard. This costs £26 and will give you 30% discount on all rail tickets.

You need to collect and complete a form and get a stamp from the university to confirm that you are in full-time education.

Student car club scheme

Zipcars are pay-as-you-go cars that live on streets all over Bristol and the UK. Just like owning a car, you can use a Zipcar whenever you want, for as long as you want. Unlike owning a car, you don’t need to worry about anything else with tax, insurance and petrol all included.

The University of Bristol and Zipcar are working together to give students simple, 24/7 access to cars when they need them. Student annual membership is only £29.50 (saving you £30), and driving starts from £5/hr.

Cycling

The cycling webpages have lots of information about cycling facilities, routes and training.
