2008 International Taught Postgraduate Scholarship winners

International Taught Postgraduate Scholarships were awarded to nine students.

Phredd Groves, USA (MA Landscape Archaeology)

My spouse and I have made friends here through some of the local community groups in the neighborhood and the diversity of the neighborhood reminds me a little bit of my former home in New York City

Miyoung Heo  Miyoung Heo, South Korea (MSc TESOL)

I cherish every moment I spend here in Bristol. It is giving me an enormous amount of inspiration to be a better teacher and some unforgettable precious memories, which will last me all my life.

Nobuyuki Hojiro  Nobuyuki Hojiro, Japan (MSc Development and Security)

What I have liked the most about the academic environment in Bristol is the words of encouragement from my tutors

Chia-Yueh Hsu  Chia-Yueh Hsu, Taiwan (BSc Research Methods in Psychology)

The quality of teaching in University of Bristol is excellent and life in the city is quite a nice combination of convenience and leisure.

Allison Marcucci  Allison Marcucci, Canada (MA Landscape Archaeology)

If I could make any suggestion to international students, it would be to not be intimidated by linguistic or cultural barriers. If you choose to live in student accommodations take the time to get to know your flat mates. It means that you’ll never have to go farther than across the hall for support, and will make adjusting to being away from home a lot easier.

M. Carolina Martinez Gondra  M. Carolina Marinez Gondra, Argentina (MA Film and TV Production)

As we come from diverse academic backgrounds and we are of different nationalities and genders I think we are a good blend. The melting pot dynamic is enriching to the course.

Hartanto Ng  Hartanto Ng, Indonesia (MSc Finance and Investment)

Thanks to the small sized classes too that it was faster for me to meet new people. With the diverse population at the university, I am able to practice my Mandarin with my Chinese friends, exchange customs and traditions and hang out with people from different countries

Edo Omic  Edo Omic, Bosnia Herzegovina (MSc Economics)

The diversity within the student and locals creates a truly accepting international community.

Zunaed Rabbani  Zunaed Rabbani, Bangladesh (MSc International Development)

People here are nice, friendly and they actually have time for you, unlike other busy cities. And those I think are much-needed factors for a newcomer in UK
