Fees and costs
Tuition fees
If you are a nominated student from one of our Exchange Partners, you will receive a tuition fee waiver. You must include a nomination letter from your institution in your application form in order to receive this tuition fee waiver.
All other students will be responsible for the Study Abroad tuition fee, which is a single payment, due at registration and payable in £ sterling. There are no additional fees in any department, and no ‘bench fees’ are levied in any practical/laboratory based courses.
Full tuition fees for the academic year 2009/10 are:
Full Year: £9,540
One semester: £4,770
Full tuition fees for the academic year 2010/11 are:
Full Year: £9,920
One semester: £4,960
You should check with your home Study Abroad office and/or programme provider regarding the payment of fees to the University of Bristol. In many cases your home institution, or programme provider, will be paying the tuition fee on your behalf, or may have a special agreement with us which affects your fee status. If your Study Abroad office is not able to advise you, then you are welcome to contact us for further information.
Scholarships
We offer a scholarship in the form of a tuition reduction for any US student attending a State University and classified as in-state for tuition purposes.
2009/10 tuition fees for such students are:
Full Year: £6,678
One semester: £3,339
2010/11 tuition fees for such students are:
Full Year: £6,944
One semester: £3,472
Students from colleges or universities in the USA or Canada are also eligible to apply for the BUTEX Scholarship.
Cost of living
Full details of accommodation costs are given in the Accommodation Prospectus, which is sent to all applicants on admission to the programme. Accommodation fees are split into three equal portions payable at the beginning of each term. Invoices showing the breakdown of costs are issued, and students are expected to settle their own accounts unless their programme is paying accommodation costs. Cost of Living expenses are estimated to between £5,400-£8,600 for the academic year. A breakdown of how this estimate is generated can be found in the Pre-Arrival Information section of this website.
