Responsible for strategic planning for IT Services R & D/ILRT, ensuring that the University benefits from innovation in the use of technology for research and learning. I lead a multi-disciplinary team that explores, prototypes, pilots and advises on technical and data aspects of research. We partner with academics at Bristol and other universities in externally-funded projects that make research more discoverable and usable.

Provides strategic, technical and operational leadership of the Advanced Computing Research Centre (ACRC) - a University-wide facility providing advanced research computing capability, in particular within the fields of High Performance Computing (HPC) and research data storage. I also provide advice on complex techniques in HPC such as code optimization, tuning and parallelization and Numerical Analysis principles and methods and their application.

Leads the IT Infrastructure Group, providing the underlying IT which keeps university teaching, research & business running. Responsibilities include the strategic development of networks & telephony, computer systems hardware and applications, data storage and management, data centres, business continuity, mobile IT, communications & collaboration tools.
Nick's particular interests include mobility, cloud computing, the social web and IT consumerisation. At Bristol Nick works to develop an understanding of IT strategy across all staff through the Futures Cafe programme. Nationally he speaks at conferences including FOTE, the Eduserv Symposium, and Networkshop 2011.

Responsible for developing and delivering the Division’s vision and strategy for Information Technologies across the University, and ensuring alignment with University vision and strategy. More specifically, responsible for leading IT Systems Development University-wide, including systems development, enterprise architecture and middleware services.
