Android Google Setup (Email and Calendar)

All University Google services (Email, Calendar and Drive) can be configured with the guide we've provided here. If you get stuck, please have a look at our troubleshooting section.

These instructions assume you are using the Gmail app. Lots of devices don't have this installed by default but it is available to download for free from the Google Play Store. It is also possible to set up email in a third party application, however, we can't support the wide range of third party email clients available. For instructions on how to do this, please see the relevant Google help pages.

By configuring your device using the method below, your device may be connected to our Google service. Please be aware of the MDM policy

How do I set up my device?

    On your computer

  1. Set your Google password using our password change form.
  2. On your device

  3. Open Settings from your application list
  4. Select Add account

  6. For the type of account, select Google

  8. If it asks you if this is a New or Existing account, select Existing

  10. Open the application and sign in with your Google username and Google password. This should look like:...
    • Staff: ab12345@bristol.ac.uk
    • Student: ab12345@my.bristol.ac.uk

  11. Follow the rest of the wizard. The following options are up to you (For example backing up your phone)
  12. Your Google account is now set up to work with all the Google Applications on your mobile device.
