Who uses COBS?

Any member of the University with a current UOB username may log in to COBS, although it is intended primarily for use by students, who can book skills courses offered by the following departments and faculties:
  • Student Development Unit in the Students' Union (Key skills, Study skills, Tooled Up and Volunteer training)
  • Information Services (mainly IT skills courses)
  • The Faculties of Medical & Veterinary Sciences, Medicine & Dentistry and Social Sciences & Law (mainly skills courses for postgraduates).
What you can see and do when logged in depends on who you are:
  • Students can see all the courses on COBS that are available for self-booking. They can book onto any course for which COBS deems them eligible, as determined by their faculty, student status (undergraduate, taught or research postgraduate) and year of study
  • Staff who do not have additional access rights (the majority) can view the courses available to students. If they are also a registered student they can book themselves onto courses for which they are eligible
  • COBS booking administrators and trainers can see and manage student bookings on courses offered by the department or faculty for which they are a nominiated booking administrator or trainer
  • COBS full administrators can set up courses on COBS and manage student bookings. See the list of COBS administrators.
