IT Support

A significant amount of information is available on the IT website and in particular the information pages on the left. If you have been unable to find information to help you or that information has not solved your problem then the following services may help:

Student Laptop and Mobile Clinic

Is your laptop slow and unreliable? Worried you might have a virus? Are you a student at the University? The free student laptop clinic can help. Bring your laptop along to the clinic and we’ll work on it while you wait. We can’t solve every problem, but are happy to look at anything and see what we can do. To find out the opening times and location of the laptop clinic visit:

Got a problem?  Then AskIT!

Bought a new home computer and need help? Want to help others, or got a tip to share? Not sure what to buy? AskIT is the right place to go. It’s for staff and students who use their own kit with university services - wireless & ResNet users, and everyone with a home computer, laptop or smartphone. Anyone can post a question, and anyone can answer it and help each other out.

AskIT draws on the expertise of all staff and students across the university. It’s especially useful for less urgent queries on personal equipment. Questions on AskIT aren’t guaranteed a response, but it’s likely someone else out there will have the same one as you and could be pleased to share their experience.

IT Service Desk

If you have been unable to find a solution to your problem then the professional IT staff on the IT Service Desk may be able to advise.  The service desk can answer many questions about core and non-core IT services, including:

  • Authentication and passwords
  • Email services
  • Google Calendar
  • Remote drives (filestores) and backup services
  • Common software (such as Microsoft Office)
  • Wireless
  • Remote (off campus) access

If they cannot help directly, they may pass your query onto other teams to answer.
