Training for undergraduates and taught postgraduates

Taught IT courses

IT Services offers free, short, hand-on courses and bookable self-paced learning (SPL) sessions open to any taught student throughout the academic year (but mostly in the Autumn and Spring terms) in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

To view the IT skills courses and SPL sessions available to undergraduates and to book your place, visit OnCourse (see IT courses for students).

When appropriate, undergraduates can also attend High Performance Computing courses (for instance, 3rd or 4th year project students who are using HPC).

Self-study

If you prefer learning by yourself, at your own pace, you'll find the documents that are issued on our courses, and more, below. All these documents are suitable for self-study and many include practical exercises for which we supply files with which you can practice:

There is also a lot of useful information and advice about computing elsewhere on the IT Services website, including IT information for students.

Remember that computing is not a risk-free activity, so be sure also to take a little time to think about how to protect your computer, your data and yourself.

Other learning opportunities

If your interest extends beyond IT and information literacy skills, you'll find a wider range of learning opportunities on the University's Student Skills Directory
