Teaching in Italy

Aims & Objectives | Practical Details | Requirements | Study in Italy | Work in Italy

Teaching Assistantships:

Teaching English as a foreign language in a state school (usually a liceo) is a valid work experience, requiring, as prime requisite, a genuine interest in teaching.

For students spending the whole of the academic year in Italy  this can be done through the scheme offered by the British Council (for further information and details of contract see www.languageassistant.co.uk). As this scheme is also part of the Erasmus programme, students will have no fees to pay to the University of Bristol and will get a salary in euros. For accommodation and for further administrative queries it is best to liaise directly with the assigned school.

For students spending 4-5 months in Italy, it is possible to become a language assistant of English through the Comenius Programme http://www.britishcouncil.org/comenius-how-to-apply.htm. As this scheme is NOT part of the Erasmus programme, students will have to pay half fees to the University of Bristol, and will receive a salary in EUROS.

Students on the Comenius exchange programme should remain in regular contact with the central office in the UK for ongoing training and support while on placement. You should also liaise as soon as possible with the assigned school.
