Unit information

The co-ordinator for all French units is Hélène Duranton (h.duranton@bristol.ac.uk).

To register for a unit

All students must come in person to the Language Centre to register at the beginning of the academic year.

Depending on student numbers, changes may have to be made to the timetables and/or additional timetable slots may be made available at registration. For further information contact the Language Centre or Departmental and School Liaison Officers.

For further important information about how to register, please see the Student handbook.

Open units in French

Priority is given to Science, Engineering, Social Science and Law students (as indicated below) as each faculty has made the respective time slots available to their students for language study. Students from other faculties may join these groups if spaces are available.

However, the Language Centre does not accept non-credit students - a language unit must be part of a 120-credit point programme of study. Any student (including all postgraduate and PhD students) wishing to study a language outside of a 120-credit point programme should see the Lifelong Learning web site for details of its modern foreign languages programme.

Some units can be taken for either 10 or 20 credit points. Once you have selected your unit, you are not permitted to switch from 20 to 10 during the academic year. 10 and 20-credit point classes are taught together; however, the codes are different. Please be sure to select the correct code.

Please note:
