Welcome
Welcome to the Lifelong Learning Modern Languages section of the University of Bristol Language Centre.
The Modern Languages programme offers the general public, students and staff a broad range of courses from complete beginners through to advanced levels. The programme was established in the early 1990's and has since grown considerably to include 13 languages with over 120 weekly classes in both the evening and day time. All Modern Language classes are scheduled for one and a half hours each week and run for 10 consecutive weeks, for three terms. We aim to provide students with the opportunity to practise and enhance the four core language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). Lessons are conducted in the target language by tutors who aim to immerse students in the language and culture by using a wide range of teaching materials and methods.
On the following pages you will find information about classes on offer, including entry levels, registration dates, fees and enrolment. In 2009/10 we shall be running language courses at Level C in 12 different languages. A wide range of different levels are offered from complete beginners through to intermediate level and, in the case of the more popular languages, to post-A-level and Advanced Communication classes. We endeavour to make the courses as flexible as possible by allowing entry to courses at all levels (except absolute beginners) at any time during the year and by encouraging mobility between groups at different levels. For further information regarding which is the right level for you please refer to the entry level page.
