As part of the Distinguished Alumni Guest Lecture Series, Richard Perris (LLB 2000) Managing Director, Legal Affairs CVC Capital Partners will be giving a lecture entitled: "Law Private Equity and working in business"

Richard Perris studied Law and German LLB at the University of Bristol between 1996 and 2000, spending his third year at the University of Göttingen in Germany.  He then completed the Legal Practice Course at Nottingham Law School before commencing a training contract with Clifford Chance in London 2001.  He qualified as a solicitor in Clifford Chance’s corporate department in 2003 and practised there until 2005, with the private equity specialist team.

In 2005, Richard joined CVC Capital Partners, one of the world’s leading private equity firms, as one of two lawyers working in-house at the firm.  He has been head of the in-house team at CVC since 2008.

CVC manages private equity funds on behalf of over 300 investors from North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.  To date, CVC has raised funds of over US$60 billion and completed over 300 investments in a wide range of industries and countries across the globe, with an aggregate transaction value of over US$120 billion.  CVC funds invest predominantly in controlling stakes in market leading companies throughout Europe, the US and Asia.  Some example investments currently held by CVC funds include Formula 1 (the organiser of the F1 motorsport world championship), Virgin Active (health and fitness clubs), Brit Insurance, and Merlin Entertainments (theme park and entertainments operator; Alton Towers, Madame Tussauds and Legoland).

During his time at CVC, Richard has been instrumental in growing the in-house legal function to a team of 9 lawyers and compliance professionals, who support all aspects of CVC’s business, including fundraising, investments, litigation and regulatory compliance.  Recently, Richard has moved to focus on assisting with the development of CVC Credit Partners, CVC’s debt investment platform.

In 2013 Richard was awarded the Legal 500 UK award for in-house private equity, the same year that the CVC legal team was given the International Law Office European Counsel award for M&A.
