Lady Justice Sharp to judge final of Law School’s one-day intervarsity mooting competition
Reception Room, Wills Memorial Building
The School of Law will host its second one-day intervarsity mooting competition on Saturday 21st February, where the final will be judged by Dame Victoria Sharp, Lady Justice of the Court of Appeal, and former Bristol alum.
Sixteen teams from competing universities from across the South of England are expected to compete in the knock-out style competition, which will involve four rounds over the course of the day, including the final. The judging panel will comprise members of the local legal profession, with Lady Justice Sharp presiding over the final.
The event is generously sponsored by LexisNexis. Additional sponsorship has also been provided by leading Bristol law firm, Bond Dickinson LLP. And St John’s Chambers, Bristol, is offering mini-pupillages to the winning team.
The final is open to spectators and will take place in the Reception Room, Wills Memorial Building. The organizers ask for spectators to be seated by 3.45pm, for a 4pm start. The event will be followed by a drinks reception, where there will be an opportunity to meet the judges, legal professionals and representatives from our sponsors, as well as staff and students from the School of Law.
The Law School’s academic Mooting Co-ordinator, Professor Harry McVea, said: “It is a testament to the initiative and organizational skills of the members of the University of Bristol Law Club that we are again able to host this event. We are grateful for the support shown by competing universities, by our generous sponsors, and, of course, by Lady Justice Sharp. As with the inaugural competition last year, it promises to be a keenly fought day of mooting, with a wealth of talent on show. May the best team win!”
