At the 23rd Annual Meeting it was recommended that the Chairs renewed their commitment to meeting every second year in a different region. The meetings are intended to make human rights ‘more accessible to all stakeholders involved in the implementation process and to raise awareness of their work by strengthening linkages and synergies between international and regional human rights mechanisms and institutions.’
During the week, the Chairs will discuss the effectiveness of the treaty bodies, considering in particular guidelines on independence and impartiality of treaty body members, and strengthening the treaty body system. They will have informal consultations with African human rights mechanisms, and with the diplomatic community from AU Member States, with CSOs and with other UN entities and specialised agencies.
More information, including the provisional agenda and Concept note are available from the OHCHR’s website.
