University of Bristol law students are making a name for themselves as tough competition when it comes to putting forward a solid legal argument, most recently making the final of a Medical Law Mooting Competition organised by the University of Leicester.

The Bristol inter-varsity team participated in the annual Medical Law Mooting Competition organised by the University of Leicester on Saturday, December 5. The Law School was represented by Cassie Blower and Jordan Snell, both final year law students, who came Runner-up.

Twenty teams representing universities from across the country competed in the knock-out style competition, which involved five rounds over the course of the day, including the finals.

The judging panel of the finals comprised members of Mr Justice Green, barristers Henry Witcome and Bradley Martin, the President of the Leicestershire Law Society, and Ms Krishna Kotecha, from Moosa-Duke Solicitors.

The Bristol team made the final against Nottingham, narrowly losing as they argued a challenging and legally complex case.

The participation of the team in the competition was generously funded by the Law School and the team was coached by Dr. Judy Laing, Reader in Law. The team was escorted to Leicester by the Mooting Academic Advisor, Sofia Galani, who also judged in the first two rounds of the competition;

‘The organisers of the Leicester Moot are to be congratulated on hosting a fantastic event - all students really benefitted from the experience. I am very happy for Cassie and Jordan, who did brilliantly to get to the final against exceptional competition, and have made Bristol proud’.
