Lily Walker-Parr (Bar Society) and Adam Hunter (UBLC) collect their Diversity award.

Press release issued: 24 March 2017

On 16 March 2017, LawCareers.Net brought together students, recruiters, partners and trainees for their national Student Law Society Awards at Painters Hall in London.

The annual event recognises the dedication of student committees across the country offering their members innovative careers events and comprehensive pro bono and mooting activities, alongside more traditional opportunities to socialise with their peers. Nominated societies were selected from the submissions of over 40 student law society committees, alongside over 1,700 votes from their members.

The University of Bristol Law Club and the University of Bristol Bar Society collected three awards at the event.

'Most Committed to Improving Diversity' - UBLC and Bar Society
This award recognises the hard work of student societies to promote inclusivity on campus. Both societies have held events this year to support LGBTQ+, BME, state school students, who are aspiring to a career in law or at the bar. They also ran the first ever ‘Diversity Week’ of any student law society and due to its overwhelming success and popularity, they have already started planning next year’s event!

'Best Law Society President' - Adam Hunter, University of Bristol Law Club
This award recognises the hard work of student law society Presidents who go above and beyond their role as leaders of their society. Adam received the award for his dedication to the society, having significantly increased the number of firms holding events on campus and introduced a number of innovative events for society members. Throughout the year, Adam has been an approachable and supportive mentor to students at the Law School and provided many valuable sessions to support those wanting to pursue a career in leading global commercial legal firms.

'Best Society for Aspiring Barristers' - University of Bristol Bar Society
Bristol Bar Society received this award for the fourth year running. Popular society events with the judging panel include:

  • mentoring scheme, pairing student members with practising barristers on the basis of preferred practice area;
  • trips to law courts and pupillage fairs;
  • networking events with barristers and pupils; and
  • career talks about how to become a barrister.

The Law School congratulates the hard work and dedication that both societies have put into creating an inclusive and diverse student community for Law students this year.
