Dr Ardavan Arzandeh is a Senior Lecturer in Law. He is an alumnus of the University of Bristol, where he read law as an undergraduate (LLB: 2006), postgraduate (LLM: 2008) and doctoral student (PhD: 2011). Ardavan has received Lord Hardwicke and Lord Denning Scholarships from Lincoln’s Inn, and was called to the Bar of England and Wales (Lincoln’s Inn) in July 2012.

Ardavan’s research expertise is principally in the field of commercial conflict of laws. He is the author of Forum (Non) Conveniens in England: Past, Present, and Future (Hart Publishing, 2019), the first book-length study devoted entirely to examining the forum (non) conveniens doctrine’s past, present, and future from the perspective of the law in England. Additionally, Ardavan has published in leading law journals, including the Law Quarterly ReviewLegal Studies, International & Comparative Law Quarterly, Lloyd’s Maritime and Commercial Law Quarterly, and the Journal of Private International Law. He frequently presents his research to academics and practising lawyers at national and international conferences, research seminars and presentations at City law firms.

Ardavan has over 10 years' experience of teaching at every level at the University of Bristol. Since 2007, he has lectured and tutored undergraduate and postgraduate students in Commercial Conflict of Laws, International Commercial Litigation, Banking Law, Contract Law and Tort Law.

During his appointment, Ardavan has made significant leadership contributions within the Law School and the wider University. Presently, he leads the Law School’s international student recruitment activities in Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. Ardavan has experience of acting as the Law School’s Deputy Director of Student Recruitment, Careers and Employability Director and Alumni Liaison Officer.
