'Although the prospect of further education may seem a little daunting, this is the perfect time to consider brushing up the skills and qualifications section of your cv.
We know from our undergraduates that their degree from the University of Bristol makes them greatly sought-after by employers. Postgraduate qualifications are equally highly regarded, and with the introduction of our Intensive Study Programme, whether your choice is to study at weekends or weekdays, the School of Law offers both flexibility and experience. All of the courses are tailored to benefit those seeking career enhancement, and come with recognition by relevant professional bodies, including the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority, Bar Standards Board and MOD (Enhanced Learning Credit).'
Professor Jonathan Hill
Head, School of Law
For the past fifteen years here in Bristol we've been successfully running a programme of LLM units that combine directed distance learning with attendance on just six Saturdays.
We've welcomed back to education people from all walks of life, at various stages of their career, or in some cases, their retirement. For many the initial thought of renewing links with the classroom is terrifying; but confidence is quickly regained in the small class environment, under the guidance of our internationally recognised academics.
Postgraduate law courses are not just for lawyers – the law has a major impact on a whole range of careers. If you're considering legal studies you'll find Bristol is an institution that can offer you the course you want, at a cost you can afford, at a time that fits with your busy life.
Busy in the week but able to arrange for Saturdays to be free ?
The Advanced Award (Flexible Masters) Programme. This modular scheme provides an extremely flexible format for study whereby a student can take units on a `standalone’ basis or build them to achieve a Diploma or LLM. Each unit requires attendance on 6 Saturdays combined with directed distance learning.
Trouble dovetailing work and home obligations with weekend attendance ?
The Intensive Study Programme. All the same rules apply to this method as to the weekend study, but could best suit those who would prefer to block out time from work than from weekends. It also presents an attractive alternative for those needing to travel a long distance, or who simply consider this intensive method a more efficient, challenging option for them.
Whichever method best suits you you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that you’ll be studying with a School committed to meeting the increased interest in postgraduate studies, enabling you to widen your skills base supported by a team dedicated to enhancing the learning experience. Contact Shirley Knights for information about the next round of this programme.
Comments on the Advanced Award Programme from our current students:
"I have had the pleasure of attending the weekend Advanced Awards Programme for the past three years. The scope of courses offered is wide enough for the development of all professional career paths, more so than those provided elsewhere. I have also made good contacts for further business opportunities which are so important in today’s economic climate."
Leigh Carter, Weightmans LLP
"The course has been excellent, stimulating and well presented by impressively qualified academics. The ability to attend courses on a Saturday has suited me well as I could not have accommodated evening classes. The range of subjects offered has been sufficiently wide to have enabled me to choose areas of study relevant and helpful to my career."
Nicholas Rheinberg, Warrington
"I am a practising barrister and I have undertaken public law and family subjects. I have been extremely impressed with the high standards of the tuition and administration which are also friendly and efficient. The courses have been most beneficial in terms of my general common law practice and generally."
