A hands-on introduction to 2D digitisation

16 October 2019, 1.00 PM - 16 October 2019, 3.00 PM

Special Collections Seminar Room, Arts and Social Sciences Library, Tyndall Avenue, BS8 1TJ

This practical workshop is for any University of Bristol staff or postgraduates who wish to learn how to digitise paper documents or images, whether for their own research or teaching, to help share content more widely or to help protect fragile paper originals. The session will look at how to manage your digitisation workflow, before undertaking a practical session on how to use digital SLR (single lens reflex) cameras and smartphones to digitise documents.

By the end of the workshop, attendees will be able to:

  • Define their own requirements for digitisation
  • Understand the importance of image quality, image formats and colour correction
  • Prepare and create digitised versions of paper documents using a smartphone and digital SLR
  • Identify potential difficulties around permissions to digitise and how these might be tackled.

The workshop is run jointly by the Library's Research Support Service and Special Collections.

n.b. This event is for University of Bristol staff and students only. You will need a current University of Bristol computer login to participate in this workshop.
