Chemistry Library refurbished

[29 September 2013]

The second stage of the Chemistry Library refurbishment is now nearing completion and the library is ready for the start of the first teaching block.

The second stage of refurbishment this summer has included:

  • The conversion of two rooms to Group Study Rooms for student use. One of these rooms is bookable in advance for students who wish to practice presentations etc with their colleagues. Another room is to be converted to a third Group Study Room, and will be ready later in 2013.
  • The remaining older furniture, blinds and floor tiles have been replaced and the library has been re-decorated throughout.
  • New ceiling tiles have been installed together with new lighting, some of which operate on motion sensitive sensors.
  • Our Stack book collection has moved onto open shelves at the far end of the library.
  • This follows on from the refurbishment work in 2012 which provided 40 extra study spaces and access to power sockets throughout. Taken together the refurbishment work over 2012-2013 has provided a further 100 study spaces, representing a c.70% increase in study spaces over the two years.

The Chemistry Library refurbishment is one of a number of library refurbishments taking place throughout the university to enhance the provision of study spaces for students.
