Other non-book materials, including visual materials

Collections of other non-book materials that are available in the branch libraries include:

  • Videos and DVDs in the Education Library and Arts & Social Sciences Library;
  • Microfiche & microfilm in various libraries, the largest collection being in the Arts & Social Sciences Library (microfiche & microfilm reading/printing facilities are also available);
  • CD-ROM based information (rather than CD-ROM databases) in a number of branches;
  • Diskette based information in a number of branches.

The location and loan periods of non-book materials depend on the branch. If you find something in one of these formats on the online Library Catalogue you will be given an indication of the location and the loan period.

There is a visual materials 'Material type' search on the Library Catalogue that you can use to look up videos and DVDs.

To search for these materials you could try searching the Internet or searching databases via MetaLib, though not all databases cover this type of material. If you would like to see a non-book material that is not held by the library you should consider using the Inter-Library Loan service.

18 certificate DVDs and videos

The DVD and video collection contains some recordings that have an 18 certificate. You must be at least 18 years of age to view or borrow such recordings. You may be asked for proof of age before the Library issues such a recording to you.
