All electronic scholarly journals currently provided by the Library are included in our eJournals catalogue.
The following types of journals are included:
| Journal type | Details |
|---|---|
| Journals for which the Library has paid a subscription | These make up the majority of our journals and are 'free' to members of the University of Bristol |
| Journals which are entirely free to everybody | We only include free journals if they seem relevant and scholarly |
| Journals which require a subscription (which we do not have) but which make their content freely available to all after a certain specified period has elapsed | We only add these if they are scholarly, and a note explains the restricted nature of our access |
| Journals to which we do not subscribe online, but where we believe that access to table of contents and abstracts is useful even though we cannot provide access to full text | There are very few of these, and a note always explains the restriction |
The extent of the back-run available for each title varies according to the conversion plans of the publisher and the terms under which we have secured access. We have attempted to indicate how extensive the back-run is in each case, but the publisher's site will always make this clear.
Some titles are scanned versions of printed back issues, sometimes going back to the nineteenth century or earlier. The majority of these titles are provided by JSTOR, a non-profit American digitisation programme to which Information Services subscribes on behalf of the University.
