Recommend a purchase

Suggestions for the purchase of books and other materials should normally be made through your subject librarian or your academic library representative. The suggestion should include the following information:

  • Author or editor, title, publisher, date of publication, format, price
  • Priority: 1 (essential), 2.1 (highly desirable), 2.2 (desirable) or 3 (relevant but of less importance)
  • Teaching staff should also provide details of the numbers of students expected to use the item and some indication of the timing of the initial demand.

Suggestions can be submitted by email to your subject librarian, through an online book suggestion form (below) (or its printed equivalent (PDF, 149 Kb), which can be found in some library branches) or in the form of marked up publisher's leaflets or other announcements.

There are special procedures for recommending the purchase of expensive items (over £600) and subscription resources such as journals and databases. Please ask your subject librarian for details.

Links to online bookshops are available on MetaLib.

Books that are on order can be found on the Library Catalogue (the Library Catalogue help gives further details), where 'On Order' will be displayed on the Holdings screen for the item, and no location will be given.
