Election Addresses
Special Collections holds an extensive collection of election addresses for every British General Election since 1892. The collection, originally established by the National Liberal Club and since maintained by the University Library, also includes addresses from London County Council elections held between 1889 and 1913, most of the parliamentary by-elections between 1905 and 1919, and European Parliament elections since 1979.
2010 General Election Appeal
Special Collections is appealing for donations of material published by candidates relating to the 2010 General Election and subsequent Westminster by-elections. Please send election addresses, manifestos and related publicity from any constituency and party to:

Examples of material collected from the 1945 and 2005 General Elections
The Right Honourable Harold Macmillan stood as the Conservative Party candidate in the 1945 election in the constituency of Stockton and Thornaby. He came second to the Labour Party candidate G.R. Chetwynd but won a seat at Bromley in the November 1945 by-election.
Lt.Col. Frank Byers stood as the Liberal Party candidate in the 1945 election in the constituency of North Dorset. He won the seat with 53.6% of the vote.
Major Denis Healey stood as the Labour Party candidate in the 1945 election in the constituency of Pudsey and Otley. He came second to the Conservative Party candidate M. Stoddart-Scott.
Stephen Williams won the 2005 Bristol West constituency for the Liberal Democrats, replacing the sitting Labour Party MP, Valerie Davey. He is to stand in the 2010 General Election for Bristol West.
Kerry McCarthy won the 2005 Bristol East constituency for the Labour Party and will be standing in the 2010 General Election for Bristol East.
Julia Manning stood as the Conservative Party candidate for the Bristol East constituency in 2005.
