Rough Guides Ltd. is a leading publisher of travel and reference information, owned by Pearson PLC and distributed worldwide through the Penguin Group. The company was founded in 1982 by two Bristol graduates, Mark Ellingham (BA 1980, Honorary MA 2004) and Natania Jansz (BSc 1980, Honorary MA 2004). Rough Guides have been sold and distributed by Penguin since 1992, and in 2002 Penguin purchased the company outright. Ellingham left the company in November 2007 to set up a new green and ethical imprint at Profile Books. Rough Guides is now run, under the aegis of Penguin, by co-founder Martin Dunford and Andrew Lockett.

This collection of material was donated by Rough Guides' founder, Mark Ellingham. It includes first editions of Rough Guide books, merchandising materials (including posters, dumpbins, sponge bags), and compact discs.
