Photocopying and scanning service

About the AddLibS photocopying and scanning service

If you need to refer to a section of a book or journal but are unable to get to the library, you can ask us to either photocopy and post it to you or scan and email it. Once we have received your request we aim to get your scanning or photocopying to you within five working days, although it is usually quicker than this. The charge for the service is 10p per page. Further information on charges can be found below. Please note that a maximum of five requests may be submitted at any one time.

There are restrictions on how much we can legally copy from each book, pamphlet or journal. This is usually one complete article from a journal issue, or one complete chapter or 5% of a book (whichever is the greater), but please see the Copyright Guidelines for further details. In order to comply with copyright regulations we need a handwritten signature from the person requesting the copy, and so we are only able to deal with requests placed by printing and completing the relevant form which must then be either posted, faxed, or scanned and emailed to us.

How to request a photocopy or scan

You should first check that the item you require is not already available electronically online by searching the eJournals Catalogue and eBook resources in Metalib. If the item you need is available online, you may find further information on accessing electronic library resources useful.

If the item you require is not available electronically, please check the Library Catalogue to make sure that we have a print copy. If we do not stock the item you require in print or online, you can order the item via our Inter-library loans service.

If we have the item in stock you can order a copy from the AddLibS service by using the relevant form.

  • Book Reproduction Request Form (for book chapters, sections or illustrations) (Word, 31 KB, PDF, 19 KB)
  • Journal Reproduction Request Form (for journal articles, sections or illustrations) (Word, 32 KB, PDF, 19 KB)

If you download the form in Word you can save it onto your PC and re-use it each time you want to make a request. Either type the details into the form before printing it off, or print the form off blank and write them in by hand. Make sure you provide full bibliographic details of your request and your personal details, and complete it with a handwritten signature and date to ensure it complies with copyright regulations. If you have a scanner, you can scan the signed form and email it to us as an attachment, or alternatively you can post or fax it to us using our contact details.

Please note: We can only process requests which have a handwritten signature and comply with copyright regulations. A maximum of five requests may be submitted at any time, and a charge for the service will be added to your library account.

Once we receive your form we aim to fulfil all requests within five working days, and we will contact you via your University of Bristol email address to let you know once your request has been completed. Please feel free to contact us if you have any queries in the meantime.
