Short Loan Collection (SLC)

What is the Short Loan Collection (SLC)?

The most heavily used materials are transferred to the SLC. Items are loaned for three hours.

You can use the library catalogue to find out if a particular book or journal article is held in the SLC.

You can book these items for use on a particular day via the library catalogue:

  • only one advance booking can be made for each item, but when borrowed it may be returned and re-issued if not required by another reader
  • advance bookings should be collected on time or they will lapse so that the books can be issued to other users

The SLC is situated behind the Issue Desk.

Limits and fines

You may borrow a maximum of 4 SLC items at a time between:

  • 10.00am - 1.00pm
  • 1.00pm - 4.00pm
  • 4.00pm - 10.00 am the next day (on Friday the loan will be due back by 10.00 am on Monday)

Take special care to return SLC items on time as they are in heavy demand and other readers will be wanting to use them.

Fines for SLC items brought back late are particularly heavy at 40p per hour, or part of hour, overdue. In addition, further penalties restricting Library use and borrowing apply for the repeated late return of SLC items.

SLC loans can be re-issued if they are not required by another reader, but this must be done with the item at the Issue desk. SLC loans cannot be re-issued or the loan extended online or by telephone.
