Accessibility options in Windows

Microsoft Accessibility options are also available on the public PCs within the libraries. To start or stop an accessibility program:

• Click on the Start menu and move to the Programs menu
• Choose the Accessories menu
• Choose the Accessibility menu
• Select the Utility Manager

Alternatively, to open Utility Manager using the keyboard only press the Windows logo key+U.

Utility Manager is an accessibility utility that enables users to check the status of accessibility programs such as Microsoft Magnifier, Narrator and the On-Screen Keyboard, and how to start or stop them.

Filter Keys
Adjust the keyboard response so that inadvertently repeated keystrokes are ignored. (Turn on or off by holding down RIGHT SHIFT for 8 seconds.)

Sound Sentry
Allows you to change settings to generate visual warnings, such as a blinking title bar or a flashing border, whenever your computer generates a sound.

Sticky Keys
Designed for people who have difficulty holding down two or more keys at a time. (Turn on or off by pressing the SHIFT key 5 times.)

Toggle Keys
Provides an additional sound signal when locking keys (Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock) are pressed. (Turn on or off by holding down NUM LOCK for 5 seconds.)
