General library services for disabled users

Extended loans

Loan periods vary according to the Library and the level of demand for the particular title. In some circumstances we can arrange for the loan period of an item to be extended for a fixed amount of time.

Authorising another person to collect books on your behalf

Forms are available to allow you to authorise another person to collect books on your behalf. This person should bring some identification with them along with your library card and authorisation form.  Library users for whom access to a particular library is difficult may request that a book be transferred to a different branch for collection and return.

Please contact the Library Disability Team to register for the above services.

Renewing books

You can renew books yourself if you have access to the Library Catalogue (www.lib.bristol.ac.uk/ALEPH) through a computer terminal. You should select My Library Account for which you will need your UOB username and password. You will not be able to do this if your books are more than one week overdue or if you have outstanding fines. You cannot renew  items in the Short Loan Collection.  We do recommend booking Short Loan Collection items in advance so that the most suitable time slot can be selected. If a book has been requested by another library user you will be informed of this and you will be expected to return it as soon as possible, either in person or by post. You should be aware that the loan period on recalled books cannot normally be extended as another person is waiting for the book.

If you are unable to renew your books yourself via the Library Catalogue, please contact the Library Disability Team.
